When Matthew Williamson called.
And what happened next...
Matthew Williamson. British fashion designer turned interiors expert, known for three decades of fearless colour and living life in full colour.
One day he appeared in our Instagram followers. We did a double take.
Then came a message. Then a phone call. And before we knew it, we were on the line with one of the most colour obsessed designers in the world who wanted to know if we'd create a small, curated collection of works exclusively for his webshop.
We said yes before he finished the sentence.
Designing the collection.
We started with sketches. Matthew lives between London and Mallorca and it's Mallorca that we drew from. Lush botanical gardens, terracotta walls, overflowing plant pots,
We developed a new print: a palm in a pot, botanical and graphic at the same time. Bold cobalt blue a colour that holds its own against the warmth of Mallorca without disappearing into it. Unmistakably Enkel, but designed for his world. A limited, curated collection of monoprints, made specifically for Matthew Williamson.
Each piece was printed by hand, building up the colour and shape layer by layer.
The shoot day.
Once the prints were ready, we needed a space that would do them justice. We borrowed the home of or friend Petra van Roon. founder of interior brand Palais whose beautiful house became our set. We styled everything carefully, built the right corners and compositions, made sure each print had the room it deserved.
I love building a complete visual world around a collection of art prints through colour, styling, atmosphere and storytelling.
And then came the book: Living Bright.
Some time later, Matthew released his first interior book: Living Bright. A practical guide and personal invitation from the king of colour to find your own style packed with images from his homes, his travels, and the things and people that inspire him.
Our work was featured in it. Seeing Enkel Art Studio monoprints in the pages of a book endorsed by Sienna Miller and celebrated by interior designers across the world. we did a little happy dance. Fine, not so little.
From the studio to a book. Living Bright brought the whole story full circle. Our prints felt completely at home in Matthew’s colourful world.
New chapter. Same creative obsession.
This story is part of what I built at Enkel Art Studio. And honestly? I can't wait to keep developing my world of shape, colour and this incredible monoprint technique under my own name now.
