As a life long Oilily fan with a childhood spent in colourful floral outfits, being invited to give a colour and collage workshop for the entire team was pretty much a dream come true.

The workshop was part of their end of year celebration. three hours of colour, paper, cutting, layering and making together.

We worked with the leftover materials from our monoprint process!

Whenever we created new Enkel Art Studio monoprint designs, it was always a process of experimenting and trying things out. Sometimes it worked perfectly. Sometimes it didn’t. And all of it, the experiments, the test prints and the happy accidents, was saved.

The paper strips carried the most incredible textures and fragments of our prints. Nothing was thrown away.

We had started turning these leftovers into collages a while before, and it turned out to be one of the most satisfying things you could do with your hands. The material did half the work for you. The Oilily team sat down, picked their colours and materials, and just started making. That was the nicest part. There was no hesitation and no need to overthink it. The materials were already full of colour, texture and little surprises, so everyone could simply follow what caught their eye.

And then the collages started appearing. Every single one was completely different. Different colour combinations, different shapes, different energy. It was so much fun to see how quickly everyone developed their own little visual language.

That is still one of my favourite things about giving workshops. You do not have to be a designer or even think of yourself as creative. Give yourself permission to make, enjoy the process and stop worrying about the outcome, and somehow a little bit of magic appears all by itself.
